Karimunjawa National Park Tourism Development Master Plan

Located in the north of Java, the unique and distinctive Karimunjawa National Park (KNP) underwater life has made the Ministry of Culture and Tourism establish this tens of islands as the National Marine Tourism Destination. The decree of Ministry of Forestry stated that this national park covers an area of 111 625 hectares , 110,117 acres of waters and 1507.70 acres of land. KNP has utilization zone which allowed to be developed for tourism.

What type of tourism and how far the tourism should be developed, three interpretation products had been proposed to explore the ‘genius loci’ of the park. This three products, are then developed into programs and activities as the basis for organizing the space equally between conservation and tourism purposes.

Site Plan and Detail Design of Bintangur Area , Giam Siak Kecil – Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve

To develop programs in four location s of ‘intended eco-tourism destination’ in Giam Siak Kecil – Bukit Batu Reserve, one site has been selected as the primary development center to provide interpretation, reserach and recreation activities. The Bintangur Eco-camp has been designed to support the the wildlife research program.

On the area of 50 hectares size, using clustering design concept, facilities have been sited in a proportionally and environmentally well designed.

Ecotourism Master Plan of Giam Siak Kecil – Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve

The Giam Siak Kecil – Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve (705,271 hectares) is the first biosphere reserve initiated by private among 553 biosphere reserves from 107 countries in the world. UNESCO has introduced the concept of biosphere reserve through Man and Biosphere Program for three functions : conservation, development, and logistic support.

GSKBB BR has various unique ecosystems  including wetlands, peat swamp forests, rivers and lakes and different type of soil and natural resources that have the potential to support local livelihoods. Recognizing the beauty, unique, biological richness and diversity of  GSK-BB BR and to realize the three functions of biosphere reserve, Arara Abadi company under collaboration management with Sinar Mas Group is trying to develop tourism programs and activities to meet the challenges of sustainable development.

In their area of 149,968 hectares , four strategic points has been selected to function as nodes of service in their respective development areas towards the establishment of an integrated eco-based ‘tourism destination.’
